Death 3/10/1993 Yaple.  Dorothy T. Thomas Yaple, 88, of Saint Mary’s Home, Erie, a former resident of 846 East 24th St., Erie, died March 10, 1993, at Saint Mary’s Home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Yaple was born June 24, 1904, in Fairview, the daughter of the late Lee and Jesse Johnson Thomas.  She retired after teaching for years at Waterford area schools.  She attended Trinity Methodist Church in Erie.  Survivors include two sons, the Rev. Malcolm L. Yaple of Virginia Beach, Va.; and Marvin R. Yaple of Waterford; one daughter, Mrs. Eugene (Marion) Soltesz of Edinboro; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.  Burial was at Waterford Cemetery.
1/10/1904- 6/7/2001 Yaple.  Eva P. Young Yaple, 97, a resident of the Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center, formerly of 111 W. 32nd St., Erie, and Independence Court, died Thursday, June 7, 2001.  She was born Jan. 10, 1904, in Union City, daughter of the late James Byron Young and the late Effie Andrews Young Whitford.  She graduated from Cranesville High School, then earned her degree from Edinboro Normal School.  She taught at one-room schoolhouses, Barney School and Lake Pleasant School in Greene Township.  She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Bereans Class of United Methodist Women.  She enjoyed knitting, needlepoint and embroidery.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Dewey H. Yaple, in 1976; a brother, Elmo Young; and two sisters, Ada Brandt and Frances Rogers.  Survivors include a son, Russell E. Yaple and his wife, Catherine, of Greene Township; a daughter, June E. Kerr and her husband, Richard, of Erie; four grandchildren, Deborah King, Holly Yaple, Cynthia Denial, and Melanie Gibbens; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  Interment was at Phillipsville Tier F Lot 13
Death 2/26/2002 Yaple.  Flora L. Myers Yaple, 97, a resident of Manchester Presbyterian Lodge, Fairview Township, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at Saint Vincent Health Center in Erie.  She was born July 7, 1904, in Waterford, daughter of the late John and Lucy Loop Myers.  She formerly lived at 4111 Washington Ave.  She retired as the knitting instructor for the Boston Store.  She also taught in one-room schoolhouses at the Yaple, Drown and Lake Pleasant schools in Greene and Venango townships.  She graduated from Waterford High School and received her teaching certificate from Edinboro Normal School.  She served as regent for the Fort LeBoeuf chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution.  She was also a member of Elmwood Avenue Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed studying her family’s genealogy.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Lauren Yaple, in 1980; a daughter, Reva Felix; a sister, Ina Reid; and two brothers, Morse and Pat Myers.  Survivors include a son, Reid Yaple and his wife, Joanne, of Fairview; three sisters, Hazel Machina of Springville, N.Y., Elva Kienholtz of East Aurora, N.Y., and June Chase and her husband, Oliver, of Greene Township; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Interment was at Waterford Cemetery.

Death 12/29/1999 Yaple, Herbert D., 66, of 13375 Kinter Road, Waterford, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Hamot Medical Center.  He was born Feb. 21, 1933, in Erie, son of the late Ora and Mona Maycock Yaple.  He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956, then worked for Yaple’s Dairy in Erie.  He also worked for General Electric Co. and retired in 1988 after 26 years.  He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club and the Wild Turkey Federation.  He enjoyed hunting.  Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Rose Yaple, whom he married Nov. 7, 1976; two sons, Brent Yaple and his wife, Robin, of Waterford and Mark Yaple and his wife, Debbie, of New Fane, N.Y.; a daughter, Gail Zavala and her husband, Carlos, of Syracuse, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Tiffany Dwyer and Brock, Scott, Tim, Josh, and Jake Yaple; and three great-grandchildren.  Burial was at Girard Cemetery.

Death 11/4/1996 Yard, Olive Roemer, 95, mother of David A. Yard and grandmother of Carol Yard, both of Waterford, died Monday, Nov. 4, 1996, at the Presbyterian Home in Cambridge Springs.  A former resident of Franklin, Pa., she was born there on Jan. 4, 1901, daughter of the late Fred G. and Mary A. Porter Roemer.  Burial was at Franklin Cemetery.
Death 1/9/2000 Yates, David A., 51, of 3349 Kane Hill Road, Greene Township, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at Saint Vincent Health Center following an extended illness.  He was born Nov. 3, 1948, in Erie, son of Harold E. Yates of Meadville and the late Elizabeth Wright Yates.  He was an Erie resident most of his life.  He was a master carpenter craftsman and owned and operated David Yates Contracting Construction Co.  Previously, he had worked at General Electric Co. for a number of years.  He enjoyed collecting antique tools and was a member of the Midwest, Ohio and New York tool association clubs.  Besides his father, survivors include his wife, Maryann Skisuski Yates; two daughters, Rachel A. and Erie E. Yates, both at home; three sisters, Carol Grolemund and her husband, Frank, of Sandy Lake, Nancy Hooker and her husband, William, of Holland, Pa., and Elizabeth Ohmer and her husband, Karl, of Meadville; a brother, Daniel Yates and his wife, Natalie, of Fairport, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.  Burial was at Wintergreen Cemetery.

Death 10/29/2000 Yenny, Thelma Jane, 85, of Woodcock, Crawford County, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at the home of her daughter following a sudden illness.  She was born April 12, 1915, in Union City, daughter of Benjamin Louis and Nina Mildred Jones Wise.  She was a longtime resident of Venango and Cambridge Springs.  She was a homemaker and also worked as a beautician for over 40 years, mostly in Venango.  She was a member of the Venango United Methodist Church, a social member of the Venango Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 169, and enjoyed her family and playing bingo.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Fritz Yenny, whom she married Sept. 28, 1935, and who died May 23, 1989.  She was also preceded in death by a son, Frederick “Jim” Yenny; three sisters, Harriet Higgins, Betty Acker and Grace Carpenter; a brother, Harold Wise; a grandson, Clifton Yenny; and a great-granddaughter.  Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Winsor of Woodcock; two sons, Jack Yenny and his wife, Heidi, and Harold “Pat” Yenny and his wife, Patty, all of Cambridge Springs; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and may great-great-grandchildren.  Interment was at Venango Cemetery.
Death 5/1/1950 Yesensky, Mrs. Bertha, 58, wife of John Yesensky, passed away Mon. May 1, 1950.  Besides her husband, the deceased is survived by four sons, Michael Durik, John York, William and Edward Yesensky; six daughters, Helen Medvidoidh, Margaret Luks, Dorothy Shagenow, Cecelia Barber and Eleanor and Joanne Yesensky.  Buried at St. Teresa’s cemetery.
Death 1/20/2000 Yezzi, Algisa Mariani, 95, formerly of 1222 E. 26th St., Erie, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at IHS Erie at Bayside.  She was born Feb. 18, 1904, in Casoli, Italy, daughter of the late Alphonso and Lucia DiSerafini Mariani.  Local survivors include a son, Alphonso W. “Al” Yezzi of Waterford.  Burial was at Calvary Cemetery.

Death 12/4/2000 Yochim, Roxie Jane, 82, of Erie, formerly a resident of Rouse Manor, Youngsville, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Ball Pavilion, Harborcreek Township.  She was born May 7, 1918, in West Green Township, daughter of the late Neil Carter and Rhea Pearl May Robinson Sherman.  She worked as a tutor for the Adult Learning Center in Erie for 10 years.  She attended Saron Lutheran Church in Youngsville.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert J. Yochim, in 1970; a son, Dennis Yochim, in 1998; and a brother, Lawrence Sherman.  Survivors include two sons, Scott Yochim and his wife, Mary, of Waterford and Barrie Yochim and his wife, Alice, of Sherman, N.Y.; two daughters, Nancy Snyder and her husband, Reuben, of North East and Cherie Earl and her husband, James, of Pittsfield; three brothers, Theodore Sherman of Centerville and Kenneth Sherman and his wife, Judy, and Basil Sherman and his wife, Theresa, all of Union City; two sisters, Mary Melnick of Waterford and Betty Chapman and her husband, Fred, of Union City; a daughter-in-law;  11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Death 6/28/1999 Yoder, Melvin, 80, of 203 Center St., Warren, died Monday, June 28, 1999, at Kinzua Valley Health Care.  He was born in Plain City, Ohio, Dec. 9, 1918, son of the late Roman and Emma Kramer Yoder.  He was raised and educated in Plain City, then owned and operated a dairy farm in Spartansburg from 1941 to 1971.  He worked as a farm machinery assembler for McCrillis Farm Supply in Lincolnville, retiring in 1981.  Mr. Yoder was the Sunday Bible school superintendent for Valley View Mennonite Church in spartansburg and a member of its building and pastoral search committees.  He also volunteered with the Mennonite Disaster Service following the area tornado strikes in 1985.  He enjoyed reading and gardening.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Crassi; and two brothers, Eli and John Yoder.  Survivors include his wife, Gladys Stoltzfus Yoder, whom he married June 28, 1941; six daughters, Christine Erickson and her husband, Thomas, and Carol Proper and Martha Yoder, all of Warren, Helen Putz and her husband, Richard, of Imlay City, Mich., Pauline Zehr and her husband, Mark of Croghan, N.Y., and Alice Miller and her husband, Marland, of Millersburg, Ohio; six sisters, Katy Goetz and her husband, James, of Sun City, Calif., Lydiann Burr of Hutchinson, Kan., Mary Aiuppy and her husband, John, of Sharon, Susie Yoder of Fariview, N.C., Jane Buettner and her husband, Donald, of Sioux City, Iowa, and Ruby Shellenberger and her husband, Joseph, of Cochranton; three brothers, Roman Yoder Jr. of Meadville, Robert Yoder of Canon, Ga., and Richard Yoder of Cazenovia, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  Burial was held at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Death 6/21/1998 Yoder.  Richard A. Yoder Sr., 55, brother of Kenneth Yoder of Waterford, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at his home.  A resident of Corry, he was born Dec. 16, 1942, in Oak Ridge, Pa., son of the late Clyde and Martha Adams Yoder.  Burial was at West Lawn Cemetery, Columbus.
Death 9/20/2001 Yonich, George Kasmir, 79, of 9285 Heibel Road, Greene Township, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at Hamot Medical Center.  He was born Feb. 18, 1922, in Clairton Pa., son of the late George and Stella Olesky Yonich.  He was a machinist with Westinghouse Corp. for more than 20 years, retiring in 1983.  He was a graduate of Clairton High School and was a member of Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 146.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Ashperger Yonich, in 1993; three brothers, Louis Yonich, John Yonich, and Anthony Yonich; two sisters, Effie Nikolich and Stella Phillips.  Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Sanders and her husband Tom, of Erie; two sisters, Dolores Mitro and her husband, Dale, of Clairton; a brother, Edward Yonich of Clairton; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  Interment was private at St. Clare Cemetery, Clairton.

Death 1/26/2001 Yost, Howard R., 98, of 10156 Jamestown Road, Wattsburg, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at Manville’s Country Care.  He was born Oct. 8, 1902, in Wattsburg, son of the late Clayton and Julia Mae Emery Yost.  He was self-employed as a dairy farmer, retiring in 1965.  He served as vice president of the Erie-Crawford Dairy Cooperative from 1951 to 1965.  He served as president of the Lowville Cemetery Association for several years and was a charter member of the Wattsburg Fire Department.  He led the board of directors for the Erie County Fair for several years and was also a member of the Wattsburg School Board.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Mae Clark Yost, in 1979; two brothers, Carl M. and Kenneth Yost; a sister, Bessie Conn; and a great-grandson, Brent Van Riper.  Survivors include a daughter, Elaine Young and her husband, David, of Sharon; a son, Norman H. Yost and his wife, Mary Lou, of Wattsburg; two sisters, Pearl Gorniak and Myrtle Eades, both of North East; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Death 12/27/1999 Yost, John, 84, a resident of Corry Manor Nursing Home, formerly of Wattsburg, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999.  He was born Feb. 7, 1915, in Wattsburg, son of the late Clark and Nellie Dean Yost.  He worked for Bucyrus Erie and also farmed until his retirement.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers; and three sisters.  Survivors include a sister, Helen Taylor of North East; and several nieces and nephews.  Burial was at Lowville Cemetery.
Death 5/10/1998 Yost, Lee Duane, 75, of Manley Heights, Union City, died Sunday, May 10, 1998, at Union City Memorial Hospital.  He was born March 5, 1923, in Wolsey, S.D., son of the late Lee H. and Mildred Zelda Leonard Yost.  He was a retired truck driver.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.  He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Waterford.  He was preceded in death by a brother.  Survivors include his wife, Frances Marie Wakula Yost; a daughter, Lesha K. States and her husband, Dale J., of Wattsburg; a son, Bradley W. Yost and his wife, Brenda, of Union City; seven brothers; three sisters; and five grandchildren.  Burial was at Lowville Cemetery.
Death 3/20/1997 Yost.  Leonard H. Yost Sr., 60, of Clermont, Fla., formerly of Wattsburg, died Sunday, March 30, 1997, at his residence.  He was born in Erie July 17, 1936, son of the late Lee H. and Zelda M. (Leonard) Yost Steele.  Mr. Yost was a truck driver for many years in Wattsburg before moving to Florida in 1982.  He worked at Disney World for five years.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Orlando, Fla. He was a member of the Orange Lake Breakfast Club and Orange Lake Home Owner’s Association.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Yost; a son, Leonard H. Yost Jr.; and a grandson, Samuel J. Potter II.  Survivors include his wife, Sheva Jeannette Fenno Yost of Clermont; three daughters, Cheryl Lynne Smith and Coreen Jeanette Rivera, both of Clermont, and Julie Ann Somerville of Storytown, Pa.; two sons, Gary Lee Yost of Wattsburg and Matthew James Yost of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; three sisters, Gwyneth Hogan of Erie, Shirley Lewis of Wattsburg and Glenda Young of Waterford; eight brothers, Lee Duane, David, Larry, John and Wilber “Buzz” Yost of Union City, Philetus of Wattsburg, Victor of Dunnellon, Fla., and Wesley of Erie; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  Burial was at Lowville Cemetery.

Death 2/15/2001 Yost, Wesley L. “Wes,” 71, of McClelland Avenue, Erie, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at his residence after a brief illness.  He was born at Huron, S.D., April 19, 1929, son of the late Lee and Zelda Leonard Yost.  He lived most of his life in the Erie area.  He served with the U.S. Navy as a commissary man during the Korean War.  He then worked for Van Air Systems and served as chief steward for his union.  He retired in 1991 after 31 years.  He was a founding member of International Association of Machinist Local 1928 E.C.U. and served various roles, including president and recording secretary.  He also was a charter member of Moose Lodge 593.  He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 470 and attended St. James Catholic Church.  He competed in the annual Erie District Bowling Association Brothers Tournament and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and growing roses.  He was preceded in death by brothers Duane, Leonard, and Martin Yost.  Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Joan Fitzpatrick Yost; three daughters Gail M. Galbreath and her husband, Don, Maureen A. Zimmerman and Brenda L. Yost, all of Erie; a son, Wesley P. Yost, all of Erie; a son, Wesley P. Pleasant Cemetery.

Death 1/19/1933 Young, Mr. Arthur F., passed away Thurs. Jan 19, 1933, nearly 64 years of age. United in marriage to Clara Fuller.  Of the four children born to this union, two survive.  Arthur F. Young, Jr. died in 1918; Mrs. Majorie Rose passed away in 1932.  His second marriage was to Vina Rouse who with a son and daughter, two brothers and four sisters survive.

Death 6/16/1993 Young, Erval J., 82, Main Street, Wattsburg, died June 16, 1993, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center after a long illness.  He was born in Port Allegheny, on Nov., 24, 1910, the son of the late Fredrick and Edith Freer Young.  Mr. Young retired from International Paper Co., North Tonawanda, N.Y., in 1972.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the First Assembly of God in Union City.  He was preceded in death by one grandchild, Colleen Young, and three sisters.  Survivors include his wife, Mary Young, whom he married on Nov. 16, 1938; three daughters, Mrs. Gaunda Fuller of Bradford, Mrs. Clodagh Lilley of Union City and Mrs. Penny Combs of Wattsburg; two sons, James A. Young of Young, Ariz., and Erval H. Young of North Tonawanda, N.Y.; and one sister, Mrs. Susan Burroughs of East Portville, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.  Burial was at McKean Memorial Park in Bradford.

Death 7/13/1998 Young, Helen E., 84, formerly of Peoria, Ariz., died Monday, July 13, 1998, in Siloam Springs, Ark.  She was born in Crawford County and moved to Arizona from Pennsylvania in 1972.  Survivors include a daughter, Madelon Jeffreys of Knox, Pa.; two sons, Russell Young of Youngtown, Ariz., and Lynford Young of Siloam Springs; three sisters, Arlys Rae of Girard, Ardys Moniot of Erie and Shirley Peterson of Cranesville; a brother, Arold Green of Ridgecrest, Calif.; 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.  Burial was at Resthaven Park Cemetery, Youngtown.
Death 11/2/1888 Young, John B., passed away Fri. Nov. 2, 1888; born Oct. 10, 1821; married Miss Lola Greene in 1867.  They had eight children, four boys and four girls, all of whom with his wife, survive him.

Death 10/8/1996 Young, Keith A., 31, 2150 W. 8th St., Erie, died on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 1996, in Clymer, N.Y.  He was born in Erie, Feb. 24, 1965, son of Faye Louise Sanford Young of Summit Township and the late Charles Francis Young, who died in 1983.  He was a graduate of Fort LeBoeuf High School.  He was employed by Young Electric in Erie as an electrician.  Besides his mother, he is survived by a sister, Sandra J. Meely and her husband, Douglas, of Harborcreek; three brothers, Charles W. Young and his wife, Susan, of Erie, Melvin L. Young and his wife, Belinda, of Shreveport, La., and Michael P. Young and his wife, Jennifer, of Erie; four nieces and two nephews.  Burial was at Waterford Cemetery.

Death 11/15/1998 Young.  Mary Margaret Dodge Young, 82, formerly of Youngstown, Ariz., died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, in Raleigh, N.C.  She was born May 5, 1916, in Marienville, Pa., daughter of the late Horton M. and Bertha M. Payne Dodge.  She was a practical nurse, retiring in 1966.  She was a member of East Smethport and Degolia, Pa., United Brethren churches and the Riverside United Brethren Church in Buffalo, N.Y., where she was a teacher, Sunday School superintendent and member of the Ladies Aid.  She also was president of the W.M.S. and the Women’s Christian Temperance Union.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Erval J. Young, whom she married in November 1933; and by a granddaughter, Collen Young; a sister, Reba Grady; and a brother, Leo Dodge of New Waterford, Ohio.  Survivors include three daughters, Gaudna P. Fuller of Bradford, Clodagh P. Lilley of Union City and Penny F. Combs and her husband, William, of Zebulon, N.C.; two sons, James A. Young and his wife, Joyce, of Youngstown, Ariz., and Erval H. Young and his wife, Jill, of Tonawanda, N.Y.; two sisters, Opal Kosinsiki of Warren, Pa., and Nellie Pancake of Crossingville, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.  Burial was at McKean Memorial Park, Mount Alton, Pa.

Death 7/20/1973 Young, Rulaf F., 80, died at St. Vincent Hospital.  He was born in Union City to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Young.  He is survived by two sons:  Marshal Young of Union City and Dr. David Young of Sharon; four grandsons:  Richard, Alan, Robert, and Douglas Young; one sister, Mrs. Belle Cooper of Union city; and several nieces and nephews.  He was buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
Death 2/2/1997 Young.  Ruth E. Lattin Young, 80, of Millcreek Township, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 1997.  She was born in Shelby, Mich., on July 31, 1916, daughter of the late Elmer Lattin and Grace Gilbert Lattin.  Mrs. Young graduated from Georgetown University, worked as a registered nurse at Hamot Medical Center for several years prior to retirement, and enjoyed bowling and keeping active until a prior illness.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jacob Young, in 1974.  She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Steffy of Waterford; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Death 9/17/1988 Yovich, Peter A., 20, died in Suitland, MD.  He was born in Union City on September 29, 1967.  He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Daniel Yovich, in 1987.  He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Dennis and Marcia Jelonek Becker of Bergenfield, NJ; his father and stepmother, Alan and Pat Yovich of Kingsville, OH; his wife, Charlotte Yovich of Kingsville; a son, Corey Alan Yovich; two brothers:  Monty Koonse of Kingsville and Mark Becker of Bergenfield, NJ; a sister, Sherry Koonse of Kingsville; his paternal grandmother, Verna Yovich of Union City; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Jelonek of Erie.  He was buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
